A video made for the Arena project (also see audio works entitled Souls) A team of air traffic controllers were invited to cycle in formation on the airport runway at Newcastle International Airport, this involved the coordination of a major video shoot with three camera operators simultaneously filming from a moving vehicle, helicopter and airport visual control tower. Leading wildlife sound recordist Chris Watson created the soundtrack from ambient field recordings made in the Airport. The intention was to present an emotive image exploring the human desire to travel and the means to make it happen. Duration:
Louise K Wilson was one of five emerging artists who was selected to contribute to the Arena programme in 2003. Arena was initiated by the Samling Foundation, in collaboration with BALTIC, the Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, NESTA (National Endowment for Science Technology and Arts), Northern Rock Foundation and the Excellence in Cities Partnership.
